1934 Pickup Interior

Kube
Just WOW. Drool worthy, just drool worthy!!

Thanks. David and i are sick I tell ya, just sick!

I am glad the '40 class is parked a distance from Dave's beloved '32 class. That way, no one tends to see how rough my work is in comparison to his.

Mike,

That we are! I hope to have another one or two others finished and there as well.

Rough? Your photos (and the many of your others I have seen in person) belay that.

I do love an orange truck. I told the guy I bought my '34 pickup from I was going to paint it orange and he said, "don't you dare!" I had to promise not to paint it orange before I could buy it. What's wrong with orange? That's all right, I will honor his request. Besides, I have a '33 pickup I will paint orange. It was actually my dad's project and he loved orange pickups so orange it shall be.

I bought an original style '34 pickup interior kit from Lebaron Bonney. It arrived about a week before they went bankrupt. Its probably the last '34 pickup upholstery kit they sold. I'm juggling so many projects it's still unopened, in the box. I hope that what's in there. If it's wrong, it will be a little hard to return it. I bought a swap meet repro '32 pickup floor mat that is not made any more. Thinking it might work in a '34 pickup. It won't. I do have a '32 cab I can put it in, I just don't have the rest of a '32 pickup.

I seem to remember a recent post from Kube saying that you should unpackage upholstery or floormats so they don't form permanent folds.

Good luck with all your projects.

Robert,

That's really neat '33 roadster pickup. I helped the owner document the color and its use on the wheels as well as on the body. What I failed to do was to confirm that the documented practice for '32s was the painting of the bars of the grille black when the body color was either golden orange or vermilion.

David
What a “maroon” on my part for mis diagnosing the “33” roadster pickup for a “34” especially since I was just reading DeAngelis & Francis and try to learn more about how to tel the differences in the 33-36 trucks…..AND the most obvious absence of the V8 Ford on the hood side. Rookie mistake in the most basic sense of the word. Thank you for once again sharing all of your pictures and expertise on all things 32-34 Fords!! Mistake “corrected”

David,
Looking forward to seeing the Orange Ford DTI truck at the Nationals this year!

Kube,
And yes they can be messed up in a heartbeat by a newbie like me or a person that wants a custom featured unit.
Thanks guys for the pictures!
I sure hope you guys have planted some good seeds with folks to keep those excelent restorations coming for a long long time! Both awesome trucks for sure.

dhammer,
Hope your truck project is moving along!
Speaking of which I should go try to do something with my fuel gage!

Regards,
Chris

I can attest to how nicely this pick-up has been restored, David does wonderful high quality work. I visited David's shop and even helped install the rear window in the cab. It was finger tip nut holding work and I felt honored to help assemble just one part even if only for a very small task. I can't wait to see it in June.
Oh yea, the inside of the cab is just as nice as the outside!

Dave,

Your help was much appreciated as the '32-'34 closed cab rear window attachment is not one of Ford's better ideas with no less than 22 screws, nuts, and lock washers in very cramped quarters.

That though did occur to me. I have not unpacked it because I'm running out of places in the house for stuff like this. I keep getting rats in the 2500 sf garage. For now, the upholstery is safer in the house. I left the side garage door open one night and I ended up killing 17 rats in the garage over the following week. Nice drywalled garage, they are living in the cars. They peed' all over my '66 GT-350 engine. Ate some padding out from under a 29-roadster seat. I'm up against the wilderness. Now I have poison and traps all over that garage. Twice I have found rattlesnakes crawling in the garage. I opened the hood on a '70 Boss 302 project I have in the driveway and there was rabbit on the intake. Nature is winning the War. I think I will unpack that upholstery tonight and let it flatten out. Thanks for the motivation, sometimes I need a kick to get going.

Flathead Fever I had a mouse problem in my main garage of our new house. You will laugh but I bought 3 of those electronic rodent repellers and put one in the garage one in the basement and one where I store my old cars and haven't had a rodent problem since. It's probably just my imagination but who knows?

I have heard mixed opinions on the electronic repellers. Perhaps, like so many other things, it depends on the design and build quality of the units. Could you gentlemen kindly share the brand identification of the ones you use? Also, perhaps a source.

Effective ones would be a blessing.

Both are correct. Yours has a chunk cut out of it for the inlet of a manifold hot air heater. What is in that red circle appears to be the capped stem/rod for the starter switch which is normally attached to the steering gear box.

Krylon2, could you give a manufacturer's name and model so I can buy one or two of those suckers. My shop is full of those little meeces. Also, who sells 'em?Thanks Lawson

Mine is called Pest Defender. I found what looks like the same thing called Pest Resist on the net. Available on Amazon.
