1934 Ford PU frame

I've got a cab that I planned to put on a custom frame and run fenderless but I've decided that I want something fendered with a full length bed.

Is the PU frame the same as one from a passenger model? How is it different from a (full-sized) truck frame? Could a truck frame be shortened to work?

Or would it be wiser to just sell the cab and look for a complete pickup?

Thanks,

gary

Gary, I feel you have made a very good decision. There was a thread only a couple weeks ago here that detailed some of the diffrences between truck and car frames which seemed to come down to more or less having to drill holes for fenders/running boards when using a car frame under a truck. J...

the frames are the same the car running boards bolt to the side of frame pickup bolts to the bottom of frame 16 extra holes in car frames? no part of a big truck frame is the same as pickup outher than fenders braces and front fenders. grill. hood. cab. big truck boards will NOT work

Been building repro frames for pu's for many years. The car frame will work with drilling extra holes but there are actually quite a few different holes in the pu frame, top, bottom and sides.

A '34pu cab is one of the best for leg room and comfort. Patch panels are available for the common rust areas - door bottoms & cab rear bottom. I've done 2 over the years and love them to drive. Any 33-34 frame would work - stay away from the big truck frames. Most will have rust problems in the rear where the "X" member attaches to the side frame. It is fixable. Look for as complete a chassis you can find. Looking for litle pieces can be a frustrating challange. I've seen complete chassis -less motor - for well under $2k.

Thanks guys.

My cab doesn't have an external gas filler. That makes it a truck cab, right?

Condition-wise it's rust/rot free, just needs a few dents worked out around the beltline. It needs a dash and toe-board, but it's got good doors :-)

I've also got the radiator, grill and splash guard, front fenders, fender braces, and hood, so I've got a pretty good start.

I'll just have to start a new parts needed list...

none of the cabs have external gas filler big trucks have tank under seat pickup has tank at rear of frame just like car hope this helps you I have had over 40 32/34 ford pickups in the last 45 years have 6 now I just love them hardest part to find is good back fenders lots of luck. splash guard for pickup has no cut out for cross bar

Thanks, Ray. I do have an under-seat tank. I'll have to add a splash guard to my needed list, mine has the cutout.
