I'd like to drop my straight axle an inch or two with reversed eyed springs.what are the pros and cons of this method, rather than a dropped axle?

Pretty easy install. It will lower it some with out the expense of buying the dropped axle. Not a radical drop in ride height and you will retain an almost stock chassis.

Reversed spring eyes on a stock axle will lower your car 1 inch. After a while it may "settle" to 1 1/2 in. Below is a thread showing a 1940 Ford with the only modification being the installation of a reversed eye spring. Photo was taken right after the spring was installed. A 4 inch dropped axle lowers an otherwise stock vehicle 2 inches. Pay attention, as the more you "drop" you have to consider, tie rod/oil pan and wishbone clearance issues as well as bump stop height. Adding dropped steering arms is needed the greater the drop. You might want to first just remove a couple of leafs from your stock spring to see what changes and then reverse the eyes if you want to lower truck a little more. One thing for sure, you will become an expert at removing your front spring, so be patient. I am not familiar with 34 Ford truck suspension but there probably are some differences in the straight axle suspension set up when compared to a 40 Ford. One last thought. You might want to consider a Durant spring with spacers. Only trouble is, they don't have the "old skool" look. Here are some thought on Durant monoleaf..

Here's an example of how it can get complicated, so do your homework. Be sure and read all the links in the thread. Very helpful.

I had a dropped axle on my 33 and swapped it out for a stock axle but with reversed eyes. I actually preferred the dropped axle as it pulls the wheels in just a bit each side and fit under the fenders a bit better. The stock axle with the reversed eyes sits the tyres only just inside the fenders. The front looks too wide.

I ought to add I have hydraulic brakes and 35 wires. I think the hydraulics might push the wheels outboard a bit.

Mart.

I Have a reversed eye front spring on my 34 pickup ,plus 16 inch wheels. Here a a couple of pics taken during the build. The only time I encounter a problem is during a tight turn, or a u turn on a road with steep camber, the front tyres can rub on the fender slightly. Otherwise happy with the look.
