Who knows after 80+ years, but without them I'd think a car was originally a trunk model. But with no hinge mounts its anybody's guess.

I checked for signs of gussets (brackets) in the upper corners of the lid opening with a mirror and could find no evidence of any ever being there.

As The Art Doctor pointed out, after 80+ years who knows. At this point I'm going to call it case closed. Thanks all for your help and comments.

The striker shown in post 8 above is for the roadster, with rumble, it is 40-713780-B.
The striker shown in post 5, 13, 17 above comes in three lengths. All for rumble seat cars, it is 40-725680
-A short, -B regular, -C long, it is for the Std and Dlx 3-Window, Victoria, Cabriolet, and Std. and Dlx. Coupe.
The hook style latch is for cars without a rumble seat.
