1933 3 Window Price

I would lke to add one more car to my collection. The prices I've come across seem to be way out of my price range. What should I expect to pay for a decent restorable '33 3 Window? The most I would be willing to pay would be 40K with matching #'s. Am I dreaming or are the sellers just asking unrealistic prices?

Check ebay completed listings as there was a super unrestored 3-window that sold there recently.

As David G states check e-Bay for completed items. This will give a reasonable idea of what people are willing to pay for a certain vehicle. The secret is to buy the car with the best sheetmetal you can find. It saves a lot of money in the long run.

I saw that '33 on Ebay and talked to the owner. He said he never checked whether the numbers matched. I told him I would buy it if he did. Well, before I knew it - it was sold to someone else. I wasted alot of time chasing another 3 Window down only to discover that it had more bondo than metal in the body and the numbers did not match. If anyone knows of a decent '33 3 Window - I would be willing to pay a nice size finders fee if I buy it.

That car was so original that it was highly unlikely that the transmission case had ever been changed. Bob Slack (RIP) of Atlanta, Georgia had an expression that is worthwhile remembering from time to time: "step up or step back".

guy has a beautiful one near me and he said his bottom price is 65k, it has a factory radio and has only had one repaint. Chrome is perfect. I will sadly never own it as I am car poor.

Perhaps Bob S. could afford to step up and make a mistake for 40K - I can't. I like to spend my money on things that I don't regret buying.

Numbers matching on a '33 is not as important as a '63 Vette. I think the condition of the sheetmetal and the quality of the resto work would add more value to the completed car than having the original transmission case.

Sounds like you weren't seeing the forest for the trees with that Ebay car.

I know Corvette owners go crazy about every single matching part # on their cars. I don't think that being concerned about whether or not the Frame Vin# and Transmission # matches is asking to much. These are the only numbers that I'm concerned about.

Unless you can do most of the restoration yourself your better off to pay the 50 to 65K for a restored car,you cant buy one for 35 to 45 and restore to for less.I sold a older restored 33 3 window ( Driver ) 5 years ago for 53K.I think you would have to pay that even in todays market

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. It has given me some insight as to what the value of this car is in todays marketplace. Hopefully someday I find what I'm searching for.

Regards,

Doug

Don't wait too long. I know guys in their late 70's who are still looking for the right car at the right price. Pretty soon they'll be too old to drive and still be looking. You only get one trip around and you need to make the most of it..

Most EFV8ers are not much concerned about the transmission number matching the frame number. I have never heard of a buyer taking the floor board out to see what the transmission number was. Sometimes rabid restorers (like me) will brag about tha two numbers matching, but this just raises an eyebrow sometimes. It does not affect the price. JMO
