1932 tudor sedan striker ?

Hello,
I am trying to install a pair of striker mounting plates on my tudor sedan. Do the screws go directly into the wood frame inside the door (doesn't seem right) or am I missing a metal plate of some sort?

That's how she goes,predrill the holes so they don't split.

No, they are not retained with wood screws (into wood), but rather with machine screws into a retaining plate with two clinch ("D") nuts attached to that plate. It would seem that you are missing that retaining plate.
