1932 to early 1936 distributor plate & points

I have a collection of early V-8 Ford distributor plates with script Ford ignition points; they are in excelent (new?) condition. I purchased them in 1965 at an estate sale of a closed Ford shop.
One plate has the long arm with Ford fiber point ends and a screw in point.
The other plate looks the same but has Ford two arms and two plates with points not the same as the long arm model. And the stud on the terminal plate is thinner diamater stud for mounting the fiber arm, the hole in the fiber arm is smaller also.
The Early V-8 Ford Club Books don't explain the difference or does the "Green Bible".
Anyone out the know? I could use some help. I can email photo. Thanks Mark

Sounds like #1 is '32-36 and #2 is for one of the later types, 1936 #68 or '37-48. A picture will help figure out exactly which version it is.

I believe the earlier set look's much more foolproof to get the setting right. I suppose there is some lattitude to adjust the difference between them (dwell?) but nessecary? I say the set screw makes the gap adj. and lock down not a trial and error but cut-and-dried proceedure. As a non-expert I think they shouldn't have changed a good setup. Expert opinion?

Barry, thanks for the information now that I think about it you could be right as to dwell. I have set the point gap on an K R Wilson machine; but only on the older plate with the screw point and long arm. Guess there were more of them.
Could the other plate be for the later 36 up to 41?
Thanks, Mark

the left set is early, right is later. if you try to adjust the earlier after some miles you have concerns with the pits on the point surface. scotty

Thanks to all I finally figured it out; about mid 1936 they switched to the ignition plate on the right side of the photo untill 1941.

Moving some stuff for the Coulumbus Ohio swap meet next weekend and found a Ford Bulletin on the breaker plates dated April 15th 1938

Pretty cool old book covers 1938 to 1941 all service bulletins issues etc.....Ford and Lincoln.

Both sets do a similar job ,There are a lot more repoped points for the later ones on the right ,therefore more chance of getting a bad set. Genuine Ford are the best ,but ones like blue streak are good also ,
