1932 Sedan Delivery - questions

If I did decide to pursue a 25 louver hood to keep the V8 cooler possibly...(Do they really make much difference?). Has anyone compared the new United Pacific side panels to the originals? How close are they? If the car is a giant fake anyways, maybe some fake hood sides would be ok.... I still prefer the 20's though for aesthetics ...

I've used at least 1/2 a dozen Rootlieb Gennie Henry style 25 louver hoods and the sides are spot on to my one pair of originals. I put them on my daily driver deuce pickup and they fit the original tops. They have the correct twist like the originals. I used them on my fake 32 delivery.

Thanks! Didn't realize they made a legit looking one... Are they better then the UP? With handles and everything it seems the price is probably pretty comparable. With UP sides at $350 each from summit.

That's a little cheaper than Rootlieb but Rootlieb sides come with the original latch catches and handles attached as original.

Probably balances out pretty close... I assume Rootleib is made in the USA also which is worth a bit more maybe....

Yep, Nor Cal - Turlock Ca. They are great guys to deal with.....Many years ago a friend in So Cal need hood sides for his German 32 (which are different than U S hood sides). He contacted them and they allowed him to co-ordinate and come up when the equipment was set up to do 32 hoods and work with a couple of their main guys on a Saturday (on their spare time-AND he paid extra to them) and only charged him the normal cost for stock 32 hood sides at that time, to custom stamp the hood sides to match the "German" sides!!!! The overall cost STILL saved him tons of money trying to straighten, shrink, and bend his "original" hood. That was the story told to me!!!!

"just picture your own garage but after a barbarian invasion". Bruce had a way with words, sounds humorous but Barbarians on the other hand may take offense to the comparison.

FYI. Bruce bought the spreader bar from me in 2011, Price $40.00

Rootlieb: Made in the USA. Zach: I sent you pictures of my delivery in bare metal which has a good picture of the Rootlieb 25 louver hood on the car. Also on the finished car.

Thanks everyone!
I think Rootleib it will be when the time comes to spend the money.... for now it can be worked on with the 20 louver hood i have with it.

Here are Tom's photos from his visit to Bruce's when the sedan was still burried in his garage.

You can see how bad the roof is, above the passenger's rear window in his photo...

and then a few of all the stuff that was in the car when i pulled it out.... we just left it full till it was home to sort through.

I found a model kit of a Tudor sedan that had a receipt where Bruce bought it in 1975 for $2.70 . Sadly the box has mostly seen better days. Thankfully looks like the model survives unbiilt. But on the side of the box was this neat rendering of a stock Tudor (looks like 16" wheels). I took the liberty of doing a little photoshop work to convert it into a delivery. Why not!

I picked up another body today that was being used as yard art a few miles from my house. Should help get the roof fixed on mine and gives me another back panel (missing a bit at the bottom). Just figured I'd share to prove that the old Ford gods are on my side looking down to help get this thing repaired eventually.

There are absolutely no subrails left and the bottom of the body is gone along with the top of the cowl. Really a shame for this car but it's the perfect one to use to make mine better.

The dash and firewall aren't too bad at least!

Does anyone know if there is a reproduction available of the sedan delivery pamphlet that is shown on page A-10-8 of the early Ford restoration guide? Or if anyone has one they'd be willing to scan or copy so I can read it? I haven't had any luck finding an original so far.

Good Going Zach !!
Thanks! Even in such poor shape it sure made my day to drag it home!

Zach,

Have you contacted Kemp's in Michigan about purchasing on of Doug's kits?
They are exact reproductions. Doug had both an original Sedan Delivery and a Flower Car which he used to manufacture a total of 40 kits. Also, take a look at my page and you'll see my SD and FC. Jeff
