1932 Rear End Rebuild

I supposedly have a '32 Rear End assembly coming in after the first of the year. Since we stock all of the Bearings, Gaskets, Seals, Hi-speed R & Pinions, etc., how much of the Model-A hard parts will cross-over for use in the Model-B Rear End?

TIA

The one that is the same as a Model A is round where the torque tube bolts to the center section and the later ones are scalloped.

The most common one is the one with the round flange where the torque-tube mates up. You see these the vast majority of the time. Late in 32, they updated the rear to have a pinion support bearing and these later rears have a scalloped flange - like all of the later rears. These late 32 rears share the same parts, axles, bells, etc - as 33 and 34 rears - EXCEPT the rear radius rod mounts are straight and not angled like the 33-34 rears. Hope that helps.

I’m pretty sure the late 32’s also had angled wishbone mounts. I’ve never seen a late one with parallel mounts like the B’s have.

The first B axle is similar to the A as was mentioned, same axle shafts, same internal bearings, and same R&P. The bells, torque tube, and driveshaft are completely different.
This is a good link for overhaul on the early type B.

The later axles made to work for both the B and the V8 are more like the later banjos so nothing interchanges. The torque tubes and drive shafts are different between B and V8 due to engine length diffrences.

Brent, One of the weakest points of the early 32 axle is the driveshaft bearing behind the u joint. I believe the roller bearing and sleave is the same as an A. If the shaft itself is worn, you may have to cut a section from a A shaft and the B shaft to repair it.

Pinion and Carrier Bearings: If you happen to have original Ford bearings, I'd use them.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about many of the offshore ones. Also, if the original bearings are good, just reuse them.
