1932 phaeton measurement needed

Would someone with a phaeton take a measurement for me? I have a commonwealth car with all the wood removed. Even with the stock front seat pan in place the tops of the 'B' pillars can move in and out as much as 1 1/2". I need the "width of the car" measurement at the inside top of the 'B' pillars. Thank you.

I have one in similar condition but don't have a seat back so will follow this thread with interest. Will you steel out the doors etc? The front doors seem to be the same as a roadster, it would be interesting to see what the inside of the original doors looked like.

It's my understanding that the main body parts were stamped in Canada then shipped 'KD'(knocked down) overseas and assembled in Australia. It was a duty or tax something or other. Pieces made by one British Commonwealth country could be imported far cheaper by another commonwealth country.

The inside measurement at the top where the front doors meet the B post is 49 3/4" and where the rear doors meet the B post is 50 1/16". That should get you in the ballpark, but I bet there is no 2 phaetons that are the same. The main thing is to get a smooth transition or flow from front door to rear door.

I think you would be better to wood out the doors there a 34 here that steel and its a lot more work ,and you need to nail to something

I agree. The 'B' pillars are where both front and rear doors latch and where steel reinforcement is really needed. I think if I reinforce those and perhaps stiffen the front seat pan a bit at the top it should be ok. Not going for a black paint restoration; just a beater.

Chisel.............thank you SO MUCH! I have a good friend that has a fully steeled-out aussie basket case and that's close to what his measures. I will use your dimensions and go from there. Thanks again!

Gearheadbill good luck with your project and if I can help in anyway give a yell. What engine and ****** are you going to use? Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey all you Aussies, we love your 2x4 Phaetons, there are quite a few of them over here, but you should have made more of them.

Chisel....Thanks. Plan is to build a beater w/59A, 5 speed. I have most of what I need except some windshield parts and bumpers. I'll try and keep the Barn posts coming as progress is made (I hope progress will be made?)

No sorry thats the only photo I have. Its jammed back in the shed but as soon as it sees the light of day I will run a few off

Sounds like a good plan, will be looking forward to the build pictures.

Here is my 32, one big difference is the lack of the rear body seams compared to the US one.
Good looking phaeton. Do you have a picture of the seamless rear panel. Also due you know how many 2x4 phaetons were made?

I am going off of memory here, but I think it was somewhere around 2490 worldwide production and of that total number the Ausie production was around 700 - 800 of em. I am sure somebody here will have the real count. Dave

Seamless rear panel pics. Also a pic that, like most things 32, shows an anomaly or irregularity: a wooden phaeton WITH the removeable center panel.
