1932 Model B coil location.

I just received the 1932 Ford books yesterday and have done nothing much more than reading them. One thing I noted was the information that the coil is mounted horizontally closer to passenger side inside of firewall. Mine is mounted vertically and not sure if entrance hole to engine compartment is correct. Has anyone a good picture of what I am looking for? I see from engine compartment two "D" shaped nuts that are vertical which to me would be most likely to hold coil horizontally. May be info in book but havent found yet or the correct part # for clamp for Model B or exactly where coil wire enters and with what other wires.

The clamp is permanently attached to the coil.

Does it attach to firewall with one or two bolts? It looks like mine has only the one bolt because I can almost move it to a horizontal position from vertical as it is not fastened down to tight.

With two round-head slotted screws (#12-24 x 1 1/8 to 1 11/16") and 5/32" lock washers, both in S2 (black oxide or 'raven') as indicated on page A-12-31. The coil is mounted horizontally and the exit hole through the firewall for the wire to the distributor is pretty obvious in the photo on page 11-5 with coil mounted correctly to the two D (clinch) nuts on the firewall with the wire end of the coil facing the outside of the vehicle.

There's a lot to absorb in the two volumes.

Matt,

The B coil was originally attached on the inside the firewall, not on the outside as shown in your photos. Further, the wire end of the coil faced out, not in. Check out the electrical system phantom view in a Model B owners manual or page A-15-2.

And that is not an original B coil bracket An original bracket is an integral part of the coil assembly, not a separate part (page 6-11).

Here is an original unmolested view of the firewall pad with the original coil correctly mounted.

The original '32-'34 four-cylinder ignition coil. Almost identical to the original Model A coil except for much smaller Ford script enclosed in an oval.
