I was in the process of restoring three 1932 column drops and was determined to salvage one of the original switch ON/OFF plates. There were a couple of obstacles that I usually don’t run into. I would like to know if these are the norm versus the exception.
1). The rivets are brass. I can usually weld a little tab on later year models and reverse the spiral rivet right out. Brass made removing them difficult.
2). The plate itself has raised letters and border. It appears to be acid etched and is very distinct. It appears to be nickel plated not chrome like the reproductions are, but did have a black background which I removed.
3). I can’t determine whether it’s brass or not, but it is non magnetic.
Can anyone tell me if these oddities are unique to ‘32’s. Original on the left, reproduction on the right.
