Can anyone explain this unusual 1932 Ford V8 Intake Manifold.
Notice that where the oil filler tube goes, it is completely blanked off?

Comparison - 1932 and 1933 Ford V8 Intake Manifolds.
Notice that the area where the oil filler tube fits is completely open on these two Intake Manifolds.
That is not the case on the 1932 Ford V8 Manifold shown above?
What gives?

That is because a later fuel pump and stand was adapted and a soft plug installed where the original filler tube was.You can clearly see a relief notch in the riser of the filler tube port for the later fuel pump clearance.

You will ALSO notice that the rim has been chiseled out in order for the "later" fuel pump/stand, as Sheldon astutely pointed out in the above post, will fit flush as the lower housing of the fuel pump will not clear the lip. Some are "butchered" worse than others....which you ALSO find on 1933 intakes quite often

I passed this information on to my friend and this was his reply:-
"Yes, I know that. But doesn't explain why, or for what reason?"

When you used the 34 & up fuel pump stand, the oil fill tube, as you know is built into the stand so there was NO need for two oil fill tubes.....so the "original" location for the 32/33 intake was blocked off. That's why.

Robeert, If that conversion was done the port had to be plugged anyway because the later pump extends over the port and the notch is necessary to clear the later pump.

Question - If they blanked this place where the Filler Tube was located for late production 1932 Fords, why did they open it up again for the 1933 Fords, as you can see from my earlier photo?

Is that manifold in your friends possession, or just a photo of one? If a photo it might not be blanked. The area below the hole looks a lot like the surrounding floor. You can't see that area in the other pic.

Could be completely wrong. The area is "dirtier" than the surrounding floor. If it is blanked off, who knows what someone decided to try in the last 95 years.

All 32 and 33 intake manifolds from production had the oil filler tube filler hole as pictured in your pics. The modification to install the 34 and later pump resulted in plugging the hole and notching the lip of the port to clear the later pump for both the 32 and 33 intake manifolds.
Here is a pic of a complete 32 intake manifold with generator, carb and fuel pump.

Also, the reason they used a later fuel pump is probably because they were easily acquired and used on so many later flatheads. The earlier pumps (and there are a couple variations of them existed) are quite hard to find.

I thought the Ford Service Bulletins had instructions on modifying the early intakes so that the rocker arm style fuel pump with matching pump stand & oil fill could be installed. Someone who has a copy of the early Service Bulletins could check, I need to go to dad's and read his copy to be sure.

Close-up of 1932 Ford V8 Intake Manifold.
Notice that this blanked off area is as originally cast, and not a later modification.
Since asking this question, I was told that blocking off the Oil Filler Tube was a temporary fix to aid Fuel Pump lubrication.
