Looking for nice, ORIGINAL and straight 32 rear spreader bar.

Thanks very much,

Chad

A straight spreader bar is really an aftermarket item. The only original ones were only sold as part of the rear luggage rack. If you find one, there will be places were the mounts were cut off.

Here's what the Roher book states.
All '32 passenger cars came equipped with a B-1430 rear spare wheel carrier(rack) was ordered at extra cost. This option included the B-18618 straight across tube, which was not available separately, except through service.
The B-410 sedan delivery used part B-18169 which was the luggage carrier cross tube minus the vertical flanges.
They're out there but might be harder to find than I had anticipated.

Z,

I believe I have the piece you are looking for and will photograph what I have tomorrow. It is currently in storage with my other '32 parts. If you are looking for anything else that I can photo for you, please advise.

Z.

As posted, I am attaching 2 images of the straight spreader bar along with the spare tire bar for comparison.

The original part was strangely made. The end was a steel forging or casting that formed part of the tube at the end. The end part formed the last inch or more of the tube. The thick end pieces were also tapped so the bolts just screwed into the ends with no nuts. The outside or the end pieces were beveled back on the outside. I can post a pic if desired.

andy---i saw a n.o.s. spreader bar at woodenville vintage auto in woodenville wash.about 20 years ago. it had the forged ends with tapped holes and no luggage brackets. i was told it was for a pickup. interestingly all the canadian rear spare tire brackets that i have seen have the forged ends with tapped holes and all the american ones i have seen have forged ends with plain holes for nut and bolt like the one pictured. of course the tapped holes makes everything easier to install.

Thanks for the info Barry,
40A says that the bar in the picture in at least 1 inch shorter than the spare tire carrier pictured. Any ideas?
