1932 ford Pickup cowl vent

I have a 1932 ford pickup. My cowl vent opens and shuts but the mechanism keeps coming apart. So I crawled underneath the dash and here is what I saw. I'm trying to get it to work correctly. I'm assuming some of it is not original. I'm trying to figure out what I have and what I need to find to get it to work correctly.

I'm assuming the shiny stuff is not original parts. I'd prefer to get rid of that and use original parts, so if anybody has what I need let me know.

Here are a couple pictures of a cowl vent in my 32 five window coupe. I don't know if it would be the same as a pickup; maybe someone could verify that ? The first picture is a view from the passenger side; the second is from the driver's side. The last picture is the original part that has the detents to select how far the vent opens; full or partial. That appears to be a part you need. And there is a spring holding it against the part the handle is attached to also.

Except for the shape and length of the handle and the variation between early and later cowl vents, all '32 cowl vent mechanisms were the same, car, commercial vehicle, and big trucks.
