1932 Ford frame color?

Another newbie question... Does anyone know if you can see the frame on a 32 3w full fendered coupe? Trying to see if leaving it black would look bad if I painted the body and fenders a different color. Any pictures would be appreciated!

Thank you!
Kelly

The frame side rails between the body and running boards (and front and rear fenders) is exposed and was originally painted gloss black enamel.

You can see the frame makes up the part between the body and running boards, so usually the frame is glossy black or painted to match the body or fenders. Unless your doing a high boy, that's without fenders. G-man

Thank you! I couldn't find any pictures where the frame was a different color on a fendered car unless the fenders were black too. Leads me to believe that most people paint the frame the same color...

I thought all the original cars came with Black fenders and frame? I would assume anyone painting a car would paint the frame running boards and fenders the same color. For example if you are painting the fenders the same color as the car, you would paint the frame and running boards the same color as the car. If the fenders are a contrasting color to the body, the frame and fenders would be the same color. If you matched the frame to the body, you need to remember that the frame is also visible in the wheel wells. I would find a black and white photo, print it out and color it in to see how the different combinations look.

The frame above the reveal and running boards and between the fenders is body color, the rest is black!

Kelly,

I reread your post a couple of more times and realized that I (and other responders) may not have understood your real question. Fordbarn is oriented towards stock/restored cars and I (and probably most of the other responders) assumed you were talking about stock colors and paint breaks. When you said “if I painted the body and fenders a different color” you may not have meant black fenders with a brown, blue or green body [using “The 1932 Ford” book from the Early Ford V8 Club (earlyfordv8.org)] for the exact shades. You may have really meant what if I painted the body orange and the fenders green what color would look best of the frame where it is exposed between the running board and the body (a lot of it shows there). I would personally go worth the fender color so the lines flow along the length of the car. I think using the body color would visually “cut the car in half”. If you used black for the frame along with the orange and green I think you would have too many different colors. There should be a lot of street rod car show pictures out there with the combination you are asking about but I think the majority of the street rods are painted all one color. If you can’t find what you are looking for this should be a very easy photoshop change well worth the effort before you apply the paint. If your question is really about non-original colors and breaks, you would probably have better luck posting it on HAMB.
