1932 ford column drop barrel

I have or had an NOS one purchased in England about 1970, Ralley of the Giants show. No idea where it is right now.
It was different from USA in two ways...top had opposite slant to meet dash, and the body was cast bronze!
If you need to adapt a USA one I think that if you made a simple shim for the top and filed it to shape an contour it would be hard to tell once painted...

I need one for a pick up 34 RHD ,I think they are the same body, I would consider casting some up in bronze .

The RHD version does not have any provision for the B start knob. See page 4-20 of "The 1932 FORD Book" for a pictures of each version. I have one, it's cast steel.

That's two bronze ones, as I've one also. I wonder if shimming a LHD steering column bracket to use on the right side will result in a binding condition (unless the holes in the frame are elongated in a clockwise direction unlike the late frames with holes elongated in a counter-clockwise direction).

Shimming a LHD one would indeed drop ths column slightly, but if necessary to complete a car you could angle-grind one side and shim the other. A closely fitted shim would then be pretty easy to disguise as part of the casting...
I also have the 1934 looking RHD drop that Ford England used on the '33-4 built versions of the 1932...but it would be inappropriate for a 1932 1932.
Hey...anyone have a spare set of '32 RHD pedals?? Gas pedal, linkage from English V8? I need another project as my current projects are only booked in for the next three lifetimes...

Well you guys with your bronze column drops got me worried so I dug up my RHD drop and my trusty rare earth magnet to test it. Low & behold they stuck together like laminated glass. Does bronze rust? just kidding.

I'd expect better of you, Tom.
Test is ENTIRELY invalid...rare earth magnets did not even exist until the late '60's.
You need to check with a PROPER magnet, perhaps a Model T magneto one so you can be sure it is old enough.
This board is for restorer's magnets, not those street rod magnets.

Wow Bruce, that explains it, when I put the thing in my pocket my toes curl up and I dream of putting a SBC in my Old Town and going to Bonneville. The only other magnets I have are doing duty on the fridge. Obviously all born in the space age & way too young for a proper test. Do you have a spare magneto that you can locate without sniffer dogs and a 12 man search party?

This bugs me I can't sleep, is there any other valid test such as Rockwell or Schroeder's Cat study that can be done? Maybe just touch it to a filling and see if it gives off an electric (6Volt of course with the switch in the "On" position) charge.

Get ready for Hershey, So much Rust, So little time.

FAR too complex a problem; drive the thing down to Rutgers and tell them you need to see the de-gaussing engineering consultant or someone from the Edison archives.
Thes things are basically alien technology, with like springs and stuff inside.
And DO NOT drive under any of those really big power lines on the way...that will change all the parameters.

So as I understand it I have to take it to Rutgers and stay away from big power poles on the way, can not do, will have to wait for a black out. BTW I thought all the Big Bang guys are down at Princeton, doesn't matter cant get there either without a black out. Did you notice in the pictures that it's upside down and in the "OFF" position? Just think about reverse osmosis for a split second, Righty Lefty, Lefty Righty, Shaking my head up and down No? This reminds me of the Treasure of the Sera Madre, "Bronze, we don't need no stinkin bronze" No rare earth magnets knockin their reality around. I just went and moved that part away from all my other 32 stuff, I don't need any alien technology cross contamination. There's a blue moon tonight, I'm good for 24 hours.
