1932 dist dwell

The Ford service bullitens say block off the pass side set and adjust dwell to 27 degrees. This side is the timing side and controls timing. Also considered the break set.
Then unblock pass side and adjust the total to 36 degrees. This set is the dwell control set.
After doing hundreds like this it has proven to be the best adjustment procedure i have ever found.

Heres what the April 15 , 1938 subject 12151 says:
Block off or insulate the right hand point set. Adjust left hand points until following reading is obtained. 60% or 27 degrees for the model 18-40A - 40B units.
It is important that the left hand ( drivers side) be adjusted first. The left hand points control timing, and the ideal setting for these points is now attainable. You will find a much higher degree of accuracy in adjusting points is possible with the stroboscope than any other method.
..Remove the insulation from the right hand set of points : this will place both points in the circuit and the dwell reading will now be the total percentage of dwell.
Adjust the right hand points until the reading of the combined points is exactly 80% or 36 degrees.
This will establish the correct percentage of dwell for the distributor as a whole, or in other words, the corredct saturation for the coil, regardless of the spacing for the right hand points. Since the spacing of the left hand points has already been set electrically correct, and of more importance since arcing occors chiefly at the left hand set, there is no danger that the left hand points being spaced too closely.

You can safely set these up at 36 .But a happy medium balance must be observed on point gap .

there is no danger that the left hand points being spaced too closely. ??
