1931 Standard Coupe - Window Regulater Creep

OOPS! There is a spelling error in the title of the thread. Should be "regulator" not "regulater".

When I drive, my window on the drivers side door gradually creeps up. It will stop after rising about 2 inches.

Is there a way to adjust the window regulator to prevent the window from creeping up while driving? Or is there something else I need to do to stop this from occurring.

I appreciate the assistance.

either you window channel is to big or worn out so it doesnt keep enough pressure on the glass so it wont creep up, either put in new glass channel or roll the window up and pinch the channel together at the bottom thru the access hole in door and as far up as you can to make it tighter, a mickey mouse way to fix it but it works

Assuming that the regulator mechanism is similar my '31 sedan, the problem is likely the pinion gear assembly, where the hand crank attaches. In that assembly there is a clever spring clutch mechanism that keeps the shaft from turning until force is applied from the crank. If the spring is broken, the crank, shaft, and window can move rather freely.

You can get a repro assembly, but there are several variations, and the repro will not necessarily fit without some ingenuity on your part. I went through this for a quarter window regulator. Here is a photo of the results of my cutting, soldering, and lathe work: http://dougbraun.com/model_a_gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=5151

This is covered in the FORD Service Bulletins. It shows how to keep your windows from creeping down, while driving. If your handle is on the "down" stroke, while the window is up, you reverse the handle 90*, so it won't vibrate on down to open the window.
It should work in reverse to keep the window crank from vibrating down, to open the window.

Doug in NJ is correct. The window cannot creep if the pinion clutch is tight and working properly. The window moving problem is not just an "A" problem. It happens on all cars with crank windows. Replacing the pinion clutch is the fix. If you want to get a complete new regulator mechanism, the Model A Times reviewed what they thought the best repro was some time ago. I don't remember which issue, perhaps someone out there can recall which issue and who's regulator mechanism was acceptable.

The Model A Times issue was the Fall of 2006. I only have back to 2007.

If anybody can find the article, please let me know.

I'll be opening up the door over the next couple of days (assuming I can stand the heat!)

Keep the ideas flowing.
