I've read in the Model A judging standards that the underside of the 1931 running boards should be finnished in a rubberized matt or flat black coating. Just wondering what others of you may know about this and what you have used to achive favorable results. Thans , Scott

Scott, have you searched the archives here as there are several pictures showing the underside of NOS boards as we have discussed these. I think when you see a picture, you will be able to see what finish you need to achieve.

Another question on running boards, what is a good rubber dressing to bring back faded board rubber? I was thinking tire dressing of some sort.

I think I have found a solution for this requirement. I painted the bottom sides of my new 31 running boards with my recipe for wood preservative. I used a soft 3inch brush. In so doing I discovered that after I painted the boards, I let them set up for about 30 minutes, then stippled the preservative with a the same paint brush. When dry to the touch, the texture came out very close to my NOS boards. The boards look very similar to Marco's pictures. You can get Don Turley to e-mail you my recipe for wood preservative.
