1931 Roadster Front Seat Back Rest Asembly

I am upholstering my 1931 Roadster I have been working on all the parts except for the Front seat back rest. My car did not have any of the pieces except for the package tray and seat riser. I have purchased the springs and wood pieces But am somewhat at a loss as to how it all goes together and my instructions from La Barron Body says that the upholstery is applied to it as an assembled unit. I could really use some detailed information of how it all goes together and if possible pictures and measurements it would be most appreciated.

Hello, Snyders website shows how the wood frame is set up , the springs on backrest are mounted to the wood frame, the wood frame in turn is attached to the package tray with five studs , wood screws on on in and 1/4 -20 that is to angle on tray . The bottom is held to seat riser angles The upholstery is nailed to the frame before being placed in the car . I hope this helps, will look to see if I have any pictures.

The fastener description in the last reply could use some clarification. I see a mention of studs but what are the studs attached to? The other part of the wood screws and the 1/4-20 to the tray is pretty vague as well. My question is if the seat back is removable without major surgery. The 1928/29 roadsters were fixed to the belt rail so they weren't really removable.

I do know that Snyder's makes the spring boxes for these but photos are few and far between. Facebook has some photos but not everyone uses facebook.

PS: I think I now have a basic idea of how to set it up. A person has to assemble the wood frame so that the three vertical ribs will be spaced & centered at the bottom to align with the three L-brackets on the top of the seat riser. Folks mention studs but I'm seeing large 1/4-20 round head screws there that go through the vertical ribs and the lower horizontal wood cross piece and then attach to the L-brackets. They also show metal clips that I assume are to fix the position of the cushion spring box lower edge. The rear cardboard rumble or trunk area back spring cover trim would also install there using the 1/4-20 square nuts on the round head screws. The top wood cross piece likely has to attach to the angled top ends of the three vertical ribs. This wood structure attaches to the spring box as it's main structure. The other piece is the steel adjuster channel that attaches to the upper wood cross piece with the #8 oval top wood screws. This steel piece works with the package tray to make an attachment of the upper portion of the seat structure to the solid structure of the belt rail assembly with #10 screws and trim washers. This is where a limited adjustment of the seat back cushion would need to be done. This link has photos but it seems to be adjusted back as far as it will go. They usually have a short gap in there.

Hello again, this car was restored years ago so some of the information may not be as original. The wood to 1/4 20 studs are at the top of the wood frame and alignment with the steel angle package tray. This may not be original but is how it is on this car as mentioned the seat cushions are upholstered and then attached to the car , lower cushion just sits in frame. Did find some pictures not sure if they help.
