Hello everyone,
I’m a new member trying to help a friend with his pickup. I’ve been searching previous posts for instructions on how to install a soft top for a 1931 Model A roadster pickup and can’t seem to find anything.
Any help I can pass on to him would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Where is he on the project? Kit or just a bolt of fabric? Does he have the correct bows? Does he want correct or just functional? If he is in Southern California he is welcome to stop by and look at mine (PM me). By the way, where in general are you located, that should be in your profile?

Thanks for the replies. We are in British Columbia so unfortunately too far to come down but thanks for the kind offer.
He has the main frame and the bows and bought the soft top material from Classtique. He’s done other vehicles (he has a 31 sports coupe) but can’t understand the instructions given by Classtique.
His sports coupe is to judging standards and he’s hoping to do this one to the same quality.
Thanks!

The following pictures show the top on my ’31 RDPU. I installed this top 50 years ago when there wasn’t much accurate information available. The fabric part was from Le Baron Bonney which is now closed. The metal/wood parts were a reproduction from “Burgie” which I assume are no longer available (but you should check, last I heard I believe he was in Sacramento, California)).

The photos show:
1. Passenger side view top cannot be folded, note this reproduction top was specially made to be 2 inches taller than original for head room and therefore not correct for a restoration
2. Close up of top iron, ignore stainless washer keeping knob from unscrewing, this was a cabriolet part
3. Rear window & top attachment
4. Top attachment fastener
5. Interior
6. Top attachment to windshield post
7. Interior shot rear window
8. Top fabric wrapping around and attaching to windshield
9. Right corner top, note seem extends to rear bow
10. Interior of top irons
11. Clip for side curtain
If anyone sees errors, I would appreciate it if they would comment.

I know that the 1928/29 was fixed to the back of the cab but I was wondering if the 1930/31 was fixed or if it used Cinch fasteners such as Charlies photos illustrate? The Cinch fasteners are getting harder to source it seems but they hold well and are simple to install compared to others that would hold well. At least with the push button Cinch fasteners, a person can remove the top if they wish. It would not be as easy as a folding roadster top but at least it can be removed if needed.

I’m not sure how the 30/31 is fastened as I haven’t been over to see the truck since he asked me to post. I’ll try to take a few pics as he makes progress.
