1931 Lug nuts

I'm in the process of ordering wheel stuff (rim liners, tubes, tires, lug nuts hub caps, hub caps seals, and a wheel adapter kit for hydraulic brakes) from various vendors. Interestingly, there's no single one vendor who has all the stuff and prices interestingly vary quite a bit. I checked 4 vendors and ended up buying most of the items from Mike's (a first for me) and only what I can't get from Mike's from MAC's.

Anyway, here's my question: what would be the correct lug nuts for 1931? Offered are cad plated, chrome, and polished stainless steel.

cad plated would be the original style nuts, but they are of poor quality and the finish doesn't hold up well. I prefer the ss it gives a similar look and holds up better. The hub caps dont originally use seals and i find no need for using them. Quality tubes are hard to come by, brattons gets heavy duty tubes made for them that don't leak. I believe they are the only ones doing that. So when your looking at price, cheap is not always good and by getting a poor quality tube you'll be sorry later..

Mitch is right on. Do a search on the Barn here about inner tubes. There have been many about the really LOUSY quality tubes being sold! I speak first hand about this!

Stainless steel is not the way to go. They have a bad habit of galling when dry and most of the time lug nuts are dry. Plain steel either chrome plated or plain is preferred. You won't be a happy camper if a nut galls out on the road and you can't get it off without twisting the stud off.

My preference is also for the stainless. less maintenance and I always coat my wheel studs with never-seize.

Thank you for the update. I didn't even had Bratton's on my radar. Since I'm going to order the tubes from them, I'll run all the other parts through there to see what else to order from them.
