I have numbered these bolts 1 thru 6. Which one of these were originally Bolts and which were Rivets? Thanks for your time.

Here is some unrelated, useless, but interesting information: The early Rolls Royce used tapered bolts and reamed the holes with a tapered reamer. The bolts were brought up tight so that the two frame members could not move laterally. A lot more work but the buyers paid for it.

The rivets that Ford used expanded in the holes and served the same purpose: preventing lateral shifting of the frame parts.

Thanks for the replies, I will go talk my wife into helping me rivet again. The useless RR interesting information was interesting. :-) If only they had a TV gameshow with those questions.

Ford used rivets for most all of their bodies. Subcontractors making wood body cars, not so much. Ford used big squeezers for most rivet setting work since the rivets were smaller diameter than the frame ones. Some folks use a threaded fastener that has a head that looks like a rivet but they may not have a brazer head like the body rivets.
