Here we go again, i need your help. Can anyone tell me anything about them, double stamped firewalls, ie when they started using them and when they stopped. and a picture of one if someone has one. I am try to date the birth of my 160-b slant window 4door town sedan. Without pulling it apart till next year. it is so much fun learning about the car and what it takes to bring it back to like new.

They talk about these in the Judging Standards

I am on vacation but will look when I return next week

However I think they were used in May thru July of 31

Interesting bit of history

Chris, you are correct a small number of straight firewalls were re-stamped in May of 1931 and used there after according to the judging standards. Thank you for tip.

I saw one on an unrestored pickup, and it was easy to spot. Never got into the "Judging standards" deal but how is the finish of these firewalls looked at? Ugly as stamped is ok but smoothed over old flattened rib not ok? Bob

You can find some restamped firewalls as late as Sept '31 on Pickups. I acquired an unrestored CCPU dated 9/24/31 with a WB and ST.

I have an indented, re-stamped firewall '31 Deluxe Tudor. Henry was frugal, when the gas shutoff was moved to the engine compartment and the firewall was indented behind it in ~May '31 he re-stamped 1930 firewalls (waste not want not) and re-purposed them for the '31s for a time. On my firewall you can see the 4 data plate rivet holes that were not filled after the re-stamping of the '30 firewall that's on my Dlxe Tudor; the data plate was moved more to the center of the firewall outside of the indented area leaving the 4 data plate rivet holes in plain site. Henry didn't try to fill them for cosmetic improvement on my A and maybe others.
I'll try to post some pictures in a bit.

If I remember correctly the state of Pennsylvania outlawed gas valves inside of autos due to fear of leaks and fire. That left Ford with no choice but to force the change.
