1931 coupe wood around back window

I have a chance to buy a late 31 coupe with the indented firewall. It has no interior upholstery, but original wood. The wood around the rear window is about 1.5 inches deep. The garnish molding will not fit over this much wood. The wood looks original with some original covering attached. The small pieces that wrap around toward the side windows taper down from the back window wood. I originally thought that maybe it was for a roll down back window, but that does not seem possible. Any help is appreciated.

I have a late 31 Standard Coupe. On mine the wood around the rear window is actually 2 inches thick and the garnish molding fits into the wood surround perfectly. I agree that it appears for the wood to have been cut thick to accommodate a roll-down window but I understand that feature was only offered on the Deluxe models.

The roll down garnish molding iirc had the same height and width as the fixed window molding but was about 1/4" deeper front to back. Then there is the clearance for the window glass that is different also, about 3/8" for the fixed window with gasket and 5/8" for the rollup window with felt.
