What is the modern replacement material for the original square felt rope for mid-30's Ford trucks used to seal the torque tube and coupling shaft tube? The car and commercial (pickups) originally used a smaller cork material in the cap, so I know the car version won't work.
Any ideas on where I can purchase a modern replacement rope seal? I have a few yards of the correct white 5/16" x 5/16" felt which I could use (see picture), but I think over time it will just start to leak and I'd rather try to avoid that drip.
Here's part number information from the period Ford chassis parts books:
BB-4809 Coupling Shaft Housing Packing - 5/16" x 5/16" cross section (1932-39 Truck)
B-4516 Universal Joint Housing Cap Cork (1928-48 Car and 1928-41 Commercial)
