1930 Town Sedan production

In trying to find out the production figures for 1930 Town Sedans, I found a website saying a total of 63 ! This can't be right, can it ? Any idea how many Briggs TS were produced in 1930.

Hi DD,

Check out my poll on 5-12-10. I know there were several thousand built and don't know how many are left. If I remember correctly I saw somewhere that they made more Briggs than Murry's. Now though, I see mostly Murry bodied cars for some reason.

Theren were 122514 Town Sedans produced in 1930. Ford did not keep figures on how many were Briggs. The 68 number is likely what some one thought was the number of Town Cars produced in 1930. There were 63 Town Car produced in the US by Ford in 1930.

That has to be what they meant, although the site "carconcepts" or something like that clearly says town sedan, not town car. I should have thought of that, any time I see Town Car advertised, I automatically assume it is a TS. Would my briggs body number be of any help in tracing build date etc. ?

As far as I know Ford did not keep track of the Briggs body tag numbers. I have done some reseach on Cabriolet body tag numbers and the body tage number can help determine the date of manufacture if you have a list of body numbers and engine numbers. I believe that the Town Sedan club has a list of some body tags abd engine numbers.

My 1930 Murray TS has the original body tag number M604-25447 where M604 is their designation for a TS body and 25447 is the serial number. It is clearly an early 1930 car. Unfortunately, it does not have the original engine and I don't know the chassis number, so I'm not sure how useful this information is (the car's VIN is a number asigned by NJ and has no relation to anything).

I also don't know whether Murray started the serial numbers over at 1 at the start of 1930 body production, or if they were continuous across the years. There were 91,173 TS's produced in 1929 which includes the Briggs. I would think the only way you can have body number 25447 on a 1930 car is if there were VERY few 1929 Murray Town Sedans, or the serial numbers were in fact reset back to 1 at some point in time.
