Hello all…We just bought a ‘30 Model A Roadster. I’m 6ft 240lbs
So I’m comfy in the car but a bit tall as far as looking through the windshield.
My question is has anyone made custom changes to their seat or seat mounting
To accommodate for height issues? Any ideas would be appreciated…
Thank you….

Hello, you might be able to move the lower seat riser back for more leg room, to lower the seat probably could cut and section the riser ,hopefully get more reply’s on this .And congratulations on your Roadster. Is it a standard or deluxe ?

Had a friend that had a thinner seat bottom remade due to same reason! Instead of cutting up seat frame.

I’m looking at making the seat back thinner to move me farther from the pedals. Right now my knees are up high and it gets really uncomfortable after a while.

A thinner seat back is common for tall people and soft top pickups, I would think it should work for a roadster. I'm 6' 6" and do not fit in my roadster or pickup so I feel your pain.

**Warning, hot rod content. Avert your eyes restoration guys ** :D

How much customizing are you willing to do? I'm running a coupe seat in mine with no seat riser or package tray. The back of the seat slightly tucks under the back of the upper body and is mounted to a custom steel tube support. The bottom uses just a modified seat base to attach to the floor.

When Model A’s were everyday transportation, I think plenty of people were happy to modify their car to better suit themselves. They were familiar with the concept from the many years and thousands of aftermarket parts made for the Model T, let alone the homemade solutions.

I'll be following this thread since I am 6' 3'', 230 lbs. and have a '30 Deluxe Roadster as well. I have a procedure getting in & out and comfortable once I get in, but always open to improvements.

My goal is to ask the advice of a local interior special to see if the cushions can be altered
Without sacrificing too much…. I’ll definitely keep you all posted

6'2 here. My head is over the windshield in any of the open cars. But I put many miles on an RPU that way. I have to crouch to see out of my coupe. I plan on making a low profile seat cushion for my roadster.

Interesting thread lenny!

I'm like a couple of the other guys on here, 1930 Dlx. Roadster, I'm 6'5" and 230#, getting in and out of the car with the top up is kinda tricky once in there it's not too bad.

I never recall having much of an issue in our '29 Tudor but I was also younger back then.

Keep us posted I'm eager to see what you find out.

The standard roadster uses a windshield that is slightly taller, that might help a little. Remember if you change the windshield you need to change the top.

If you car is a driver and judging is not important, you can get extra room by having a seat bottom and back made using high density foam over plywood. The original seat and back could be stored for later use.

There are different foams available for seat cushions.NOT the stuff you are going to buy in a department store.Something used on equipment, where the operator sits on it for 10 hours a day.I did my 28 open pickup with foam, and the backrest only in my 30 open and closed cab trucks.
