1930 roadster top information

I don't want to hi-jack this thread,, but,, I have a May '31 roadster which I believe is a STD that has been deluxed.. I have the tall windshield with a chrome frame,, but,, the top frame looks like a deluxe.. Will the deluxe top fit a STD windshield frame ??

It's possible with repro top irons as they can lean/tilt rearward and still reach the stanchions.

Thanks.. It's up for the winter sleep.. I'll uncover it and make some measurements[ I don't think I can figure out pictures] and even count the rear springs leaves..

Pat, it looks like you have the deluxe top. Here is a pic of my standard roadster. If you notice, the standard 30-31 roadster top resembles the 28-29 top frame.

You can see how 'puter illiterate I is.. I don't think I can figure to post the pictures,, this is probably as good as it gets for me..
As for the rear springs,, without dropping the spring,, it appears it has 7 leaves.. I can't find a marking/stamping on the crossmember..

Pat, I counted the leaves on mine while it was apart. If it doesn't have the short dummy leaf under the bottom leaf, it probably isn't a roadster spring. the dummy leaf is probably mostly just a spacer so that a seven leaf spring will tighten up properly in the rear crossmember. I went back and posted the process that mostly works for me when posting pictures on the picture posting thread above .

Thank you.. There seems to be quite a few things missing on this car,, probably from the 'restoration' it received sometime in the 60s.. Of course I seem to find out or realize whats missing after it was apart and put back together.. So,, I've redone the same jobs a couple times.. Thats OK,, it keeps me out of trouble.. I'm going to start putting it back together with velcro or zippers from now on..

Here is my next bit of needed information, what goes on this piece of backing that the bottom of the top attaches to? What exactly is it called and what is needed to upholster it and make it ready to receive the hold down pieces for the top?
What would I order if on the phone to Lebaron Bonney?
Thanks again

My biggest problem that I did not know if a top purchased would fit my car. It seems that I just didn't know they came in pieces and had to be assembled on the car, so things would fit, if the bows worked with the car.
I still am not sure if the bows I have are the ones for this car, but knowing (and if this isn't the case please tell me) that whatever arrives can be made to fit as long as it is in the ball park for this car and bow set (1930 standard roadster).

If there is anyone with any tips, all information or thoughts would be welcome at this point.
Thanks again,

Thank you fleix 40,

Is there a piece of wood that hangs in front of the windsheild?
I have seen a piece of wood there on deluxe models, and when looking on YouTube there is a LeBaron Bonny video showing their guy doing a top on a deluxe roadster, so I know whats on that version, but is there something like that on the standard?
Also how tall is the back tack rail, or package tray part that is used hold the back of the top before upholstery, this one looks taller than the one on my car.

Even if the top and windshield were changed could one tell by measuring the seat riser? I have been led to believe the 40B deluxe seat riser was lower in height too?

Here are some more pics ,My roadster pickup has a top that I constructed from 27 Chrysler top bows ,I used the blueprint(from my last post) for the top irons. The header above the windshield is a 2 by 4.
The Black Roadsters top I sewed up for my buddy. He bought reproduction bows from Mac's. I made the irons from the print.

I realize this is a very old post BUT it's coming in very useful , especially the nice pictures... Thanks to those that provide support on here :) this detail is timeless and very much appreciated

I wouldn’t mind a taller windshield. Every time I drive for more than an hour I have to consciously relax my back and neck muscles or I end up with cricks and aches all over. As for traffic signals, I stop far short of the intersection if I can. There is an old prismatic viewer available.
