1930 Model A RPU Choke tube problem

Team,

My choke tub rattles and squeals badly going down the road. The hole through the firewall is about 5/8" worn or cut oblong.

What size should the hole in the firewall be originally?

The leather washer with the spring still covers the hole as designed, however I'm wondering if all the room for movement of the rod in the hole is actually causing the rattle issue rather than helping.

Thought about putting a rubber grommet in the firewall but like to keep her stock....

Both my "A",s have the round choke rod hole about 5/8"in size.Perhaps yours is worn oblong because the body mounts are poor or the frame is sagged at the rear motor mounts. If the hood has a wider gap at bottom rear than at top, then it is likely a bent frame.

My late 28 measures .490 using a vernier caliper on the narrowest part. My choke rod hole is also slightly egg shaped.
