1930 Model A Clutch Question

This morning when starting the Model A the clutch pedal appeared to not engage the clutch. There was about two inches of play and then when I went to put it in first the gears ground without letting me engage.

Is this an adjustment or do I need to think about a new clutch/ throw bearing etc.?

I assume this is a sudden change from previous, proper operation or has it been getting worse over time?

Has it been working fine all this year, or, has this monster just been taken out of winter storage ? 2" is quite a bit of freeplay but its not real excessive and should still work fine.

Take the inspection cover off the bell housing and look to see if the throw-out bearing is moving when you depress the clutch pedal. (It should move)

Also check to see if the springs on the clutch disk have come apart.

I had that happen and the splined center of the clutch broke free from the actual clutch disk. Also check the clutch arm and pin that holds it to the shaft. Let us know what you find.....
