1930 Blindback didn't sell. Why?

The car in question was listed on fleebay last week. Couldn't make what I thought to be a reasonable reserve in the 8K neighborhood. Lousy pictures, worse description, and the black vinyl interior left much to be desired, but it is what it is; an uncommon body style. The DeAngelis book eludes to a fairly small number of this body was built, so it seems to me that a buyer should have appeared just by virtue of it's supposed rarity. Was it a fluke, or is the market that fickle right now?

I just looked at it. Terrible photos, Terrible description, and a seller with a feedback rating of 1 (as a buyer) with no history at all as a seller. On Ebay, that overrules the rarity of the car.

 Well a few months ago there was one forsale on Fordbarn.1930 Fordor 170 Blindback, $8,500.00 Strong engine, rebuilt ****** and steering box ,New Brakes, new top,new paint, new kingpins and steering balls,Interior needs to be finished,SHEETmetal is Excellent "NO RUST" it was forsale going on 6 months. What you think,,, 25K to make it perfect? It wil be nice. Rare...hmmmm I really like the standard a lot, you just dont see those. Like me 160C.. only 750 made by ford and then about 1500 divided by Briggs and Murry.,. I was going for the 170B but like the rarity of the blind back.. The ebay guy i dont think really wanted to sell otherwise he would have taken more time to make his post sellable
:D

If people don't like the looks of it it won't sell. Just because a model is rare doesn't mean it will sell for alot of money. I'm sure a running Yugo is rare but you could not give me one.

Very few pictures, not even sure it runs. The light switch shows the head lights are on but nothing lit.

eBay sales are real slow IMO, maybe people are holding off till Hershey is over, or they are out of funds.

I agree with Roadster 62. 2-3 years ago it seemed that there was no way that you could lose any money buying a collector car. If you didn't like the car anymore or just wanted to get rid of it you could sell the car, make some money, and go buy another. It's not so easy now. You need to be more discerning when buying now and there is no guarantee that you will make any money. You buy it because you like it and may not make any money or may lose money on it. It's a totally different philosophy than it was a few years ago and I think that markets reflect that now, fewer investors and more hobbyists..

I bought my car on ebay sight unseen for 15.1K a month ago.

Oz prices are much higher than USA .

It would have been a 7 hour round trip to inspect beforehand.

The guy sounded honest on phone , he said if I was disappointed or I felt he falsely described, I could walk away, no questions.

I took him on face value and saved myself a 7 hour inspection trip.

I won it, and was quite happy when i turned up to pick it up.

So ebay can be good too.
