1930-31 pickups

"The Restorer many years ago someone said that the stamping procedure for a steel top hadn't been perfected."

That has been a common belief, but I recently read (can't recall where) that it turns out to be false, truth is the steel was not availabe in wide enough sheets to stamp a one piece top.

I've heard a lot of stories about why they took so long on the steel tops.

Not a big enough press, that they couldn't figure out how to properly brace the roof in a way to prevent it from turning into a giant drum, it was too hot in the summer etc.

All I know is I like mine.

I was admiring the sharp 1931 closed cab pickup in the new 2011 HMN calendar, August feature car,......

Jeff, I thought another nice touch on that 31' Pickup was the "commericial" YOM license plate.

Very nice pickup. Looks sharp.
What is the color of the pickup? I am looking at a blue color for the 1930 CCPU I am restoring.

I was trying to find pics I have of the steel top bows and the steel top, I can only find the steel top bows.

Fun fact. These bows came all the way from England and were sent to me by John, the amateur meteorologist, Charlton back when I was restoring my truck in 2002/3.

Thanks again John!

Also, an overhead shot of the roof.

Hi Tim

I took a second set of Budd cab roof bows to AZ for a friend also missing the bows.I go every year to AZ and also take in the Qualcom Stadium swapmeet in San Diego end of Feb. I do still have a set of top bows for the 32 BB cab just in case you need them for another project !!!

John in deep low pressure passing heavy rain strong wind, ugh, England.
