1930-31 Firewall Replacement

Does anyone know what all is involved with removing a 1930-31 firewall from a body on its frame (assembled car) and installing a better firewall?

Are there spot welds which make this quite difficult?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Do yourself a huge favor if you pursue this. Eastwood has spot weld cutters that are fantastic. They self-center and cut fast and clean. Much better than trying to drill accurately. I replaced a cowl side and the spot weld dimples are fairly easy to see running up parallel next to the cowl band.

Only way i know to do it right is Body off frame , gas tank removed and drill out spot welds. Had it done twice with no problems. Better to have everything out of the way.

I have been successful cutting them out with a sawsall but you better have a pretty steady hand as it's easy to do damage to either the cowl or the firewall. Go slow and be steady and it can be done.

I have used spot cutters like the one shown below with good success, way better than a regular drill bit

If all goes well I'm going to replace the cowl sides and keep the firewall I have this weekend. I'll let you know how the spot weld cutting goes. My plan is to reweld from the inside and fake the original spot weld with a pick hammer or punch.
