1929 Tudor Headlights

Finishing up repainting and renewing my tudor sedan. I just removed
the headlights during the repaint and am having some problems when hooking them back up. . Maybe I just can't remember what's right.

I have the two bulb headlights. The big bulb in the center and the little bulb at the top.

When I have the switch one click to the left, should the big bulb be on?
All three wires are hot no matter where the light switch is turned to.

I have always thought this was the park or running lights and only the little bulb would be on. No matter where my switch is turned to I get both bulbs on. What puzzles me is I have not done anything to the switch at the bottom of the steering column during my repaint.

Also something I can't remember, does the key switch control the power to the lights?

Any help would be appreciated.

It almost sounds as if you have a ground problem. Make sure that you have a good ground connection between the buckets, light bar and fender.

Depending on the light switch position one (but only ONE) of the contacts should be hot (except in the off position). I would suspect you have repro sockets and the terminals are touching each other. It's rare, but I've also seen where the filament inside the bulb has touched the other wire inside the bulb and sent power where it shouldn't be. This usually happens when the filament burns out near the end of the tunsten wire and it moves around until it touches another wire or filament inside the bulb. As I've said, this is very rare, but if everything else checks out and things don't seem to make sense, check this out.
