1929 Roadster Cowl Post Repair Help

Hello! In my rush to restore my first 29 Roadster I took the original cowl post off and ordered a reproduction thinking that it would fit right in! I was wrong. Now that I have the repro post in, after much fitting and tweaking the door flares out about half an inch at the bottom where the door meets the quarter panel! When I put this original post in it lines up almost perfectly! The original post is almost 100% solid except for the rusted out part below the raised moulding and for a couple of small holes above the moulding. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I know there are people out there that can fix this post or know someone that has a original for sale! Just need some guidance! Thanks!

There is a patch panel available for this post, but I don't know about the quality. I have the opposite problem. I have several original posts that have the top broken off. Anyone make a repair piece for that? Norm

Cut of the bad and weld in the good. If you don't have the equipment or you're not comfortable doing that, then go to someone who does restoration work or a good body shop that will take the time to restore the piece.

Sure beats trying to get the doors to fit otherwise.

The Roadster is unsupported at the "B" pillar......the body is wide at the top
and correct at the bottom. Pull the body together at the top. I don't remember the
figure across the points were the top attaches, most people use that for reference.
If you need the measurement, I can check tonight.

Should I cut the reproduction post off and weld it to the original? What about the patch panels? Are they any good? I'd like to find an original with a good bottom if I can. I do have another original post with the top still on it but it is rough.

I would use your new panels as patches to fix the originals. The more original Ford sheetmetal the better in my opinion, and I mean that.
