1929 Murray Rear Dome Light

On the 1929 Murray Fordor that I am working on I will be needing a dome light that sits above the rear window. It is a oval type, I am not seeing it in catalogs that I have. Anyone make that replacement that is oval??

Unfortunately no. It is my understanding that the (rear) dome light that came on the Town Sedan was essentially a rounded oval with four rounded "corners" within that oval. One other unique feature of the 1929 Town Sedan was its rear assist straps. These were essentially a rope (cord) with a ball on the end - there was also a fabric covered transition piece separating the rope and the ball. To my knowledge, no one is currently making these either. One other unique feature of '29 Town Sedans is the single point garnish molding.

In re-reading your post, I may have assumed that you were referencing a Town Sedan and not a standard fordor - my apologies if that is not the case.

Good luck to you in finding whatever pieces you may be missing.

My August '30 Town Sedan has the oval light above the rear window also but has a different bezel than the '29. So do the Delux Fordors I believe.

Same thing with the straps

Dick: Yes, my car is a Town Sedan. I have what is left of the rope cord with the ball, its too bad that someone doesn't make them. I have not look for those yet. I also have the single point garnish molding.

Ruth: Yes, that appears to be the rear dome light that I will be needing. I only have the base left to go by and I have never paid any attention in the past
