1929 Four Door Town Sedan - Interior

I'm working on the interior of a car whose interior has been destroyed by time, moisture, and rats. About all that is left of the seats are the springs and the decayed seat frames and some of the door panels. I have built new seat frames and repaired the front seat curved frame and adjuster.

What I need now are some good pictures of how the seats were originally upholstered. This is especially important for the front seat on the back cushion and how it attaches to the curved seat support.

I am not be able to afford an upholstery kit and will need to be able to show the local upholstery shop how it is suppose to look.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thank You.
Jim

Also look at eBay for model A's for sale, they have great interior photos.

Please check the price you are going to pay to have them done. You can get seat kits, and that are all precut and fit like a glove. I am doing mine now. If you send me a private message I will send my e-mail address, that way I can send a bunch of photo's much faster that here.

I don't know if this will help much since I never took very detailed pics. This is a '29 Murray bodied Town Sedan I did about 25 years ago. Briggs bodies were done essentially the same.

I would be surprised if the local shop can produce an original looking interior for less than you could buy a kit.

Jim,
Take a look at these to see if they'll help. This is the front seat of my '29 Murray Town Sedan that I upholstered last summer. I still have the seat upholstery instruction sheet from LeBaron Bonney that I would be glad to copy and send to you if you like.
The seat back spring is attached to the seat back with a couple of tabs made from scraps of top material or something stout enough to hold the spring to the tack rail. This is the same as attaching the seat bottom spring to the wooden frame.
Just loop the tab through the top of the spring perimeter wire and tack or staple it to the seat back wood. just two or three tabs is enough since the upholstery will actually hold the cushion to the seat back when it is finished. Sorry I don't have any photos of this phase of the assembly.
LeBaron Bonney has a series of instructional videos that show the steps in upholstering the cushions as well as installing the wire on welting that are very helpful.
