1929 Ford Model AA Express Bed questions.

Hello All,

I recently spoke to a fellow selling a '29 Ford Model AA and it has the pickup style (express) bed on it. While talking to him he mentioned that the truck bed was actually two Model T beds welded together to make the full size bed... and said it was that way from the factory.

I am curious to know if that is true and that the 29's would have had Model T beds from the factory for the express bed? Also if that is the case does that mean that it would not have the wheel well fender indents on the outside where the fenders mount?

Just need to know how the truck would have come from the factory? It has the full running boards and rear fenders. I have only seen pictures so cannot really tell the full details of the bed.

thanks
Vince

My understanding is that the '28-'29 Express beds were based on the Model T / TT beds in terms of design, but the box-sides are taller, and the box is wider from side to side.

They are not "two Model T boxes welded together"... Ford did not send anything out the door that looked "cobbled-together".

Some of the guys with big-trucks will probably clarify this...

That's what I figured... I didn't think Ford would have welded beds together to make these, but rather produce them for this model.

I know there where also differences between the T and A beds... I believe the wheel wells where on the A bed.

The 89-A Express body (1928 - 1930) was based on the TT express but modified to fit the tapered AA frame and had stamped in wheel wells + other differences.

The first 89-A had the TT front panel and center pockets which extended to the wheel well. The front panel was shortened sometime in 1928 and the center pocket was shortened to stop just above the rear fender.

The body made from two T pickup bodies was likely came out of the Chev. factory!
