1929 Cowl Lacing Rivets

I sure would like to know just what the process was to paint just the head of all those small little split rivets at the Ford factory.

I can just see 50 or more employees sticking those rivets on some sort of cardboard or something just so the heads could be painted.

How else could of it been done without gobing those small split rivets up with paint.

But yes, Brent is right...just the heads.

I'm 99% sure they were steel split rivets. They were entirely black enameled (over raven finish) which was common at that time.

Marco,

By entirely I assume you mean head and shank (entire rivet) was finished in black enamel.

Sorry for probably asking the obvious, but I do not want to make a mistake.

Yes, they were entirely coated with black enamel and the coating would not be disrupted when setting the rivet. They did the same with upholstery tacks in many places including any that would potentially be exposed.
