1929 60B leatherback screws behind the visor

I have a 1929 60B Leatherback. I need some help with the proper screws for mounting the metal cap behind the visor. I’m not sure if these are the same screws used to mount the front window hinge or different screws. I’ve attached pictures of the screws and raised washers (not sure if they were original), the front cap (not correct color), and the metal hinge for the window. The 60B hinge is U shaped and I believe it must go over the metal cap. Please respond with a 60B picture showing the screws behind the visor. A picture of the window hinge screws would also be appreciated.

Hello Wildrice. I went over to the shop & checked my Jan. 29 60B. My visor in attached but I'm not sure there are screws under the visor that go through the metal cap. I believe the screws go through the visor then through the cap into the header. They do have the finishing washer and are oval headed wood screws. There are also oval headed wood screws with finishing washers that go through the cap on the inside & are visible from inside. I had my w/s out about a year ago to replace the seal that goes around the outside of the frame. This seal is unique to Briggs and is now available through Snyders. When I did mine I used 32 rdstr. w/s seal which fit the channel but is wider. If you send me a personal msg. I will send the pics I took.

I have a 60A that ought to be the same; I believe I was the first to disassemble it. The visor and windshield hinge were all mounted with the same 1" oval head, nickle-plated wood screws (#12 I think) and nickle-plated finishing washers as in your photo. An exception are the two screws, one on each side of the visor, that connect the visor to the A pillar - these were 5/8" oval head sheet metal screws with the same finishing washer.

The upper hinge goes behind the metal header cover, not over it. This makes sense when you think about where you want water to travel. The upper hinge screw holes (on the front side) have beveled edges even though the bevels of the screws that attach it do not end up there because they go through the finishing washers and metal header cover first. There was a fine fabric anti-squeak material (like muslin) between the visor and header cap that was probably tar-coated like the anti-squeak used elsewhere on the body but mine was in such bad shape it is unclear exactly what it was; the fabric weave was finer than that of the body anti-squeak.

Rich,
Your suggested sequence was my first thought but the black cap is a box with 4 sides. There is no way to put the cap on over the green hinge which is U shaped. See the attached photos. The flange at the bottom of the black cap, requires it to be mounted before the green hinge. (unless the black cap was not rebuild properly) Please reply with photos of your car's hinge and cap.

The part of the hinge that you have pointing vertically in your photo is the part that fits under the header cap against the header.

The leftmost (in your photo) channel with the upturned lip goes inside the car up against the bottom of the wood header with the upturned edge or lip pointing up towards the roof of the car; this fits over the upholstery on the inside of the header.

The folded-under lower edge of the header cap, facing upwards in your photo, sits out about 1/8" from the wooden header which is a gap just wide enough for the upper windshield hinge to fit under. There was no evidence of a rubber seal anywhere on mine and in the references that I have seen of closed car header seals they usually do not discuss Briggs 60-A & 60-B Fordors; there was not enough room on mine for one.

I am slammed for time today but I will try to post some photos and maybe a diagram later.
