1928 Roadster Pickup Build

Folks,
Just thought id share my rebuild over the winter. I had rust coming through and body work needed, so i went for it. It turned into more than that after rust was found under the frame paint and everything came apart and rebuilt (minus the motor). At least i verified the frame stamp matching the motor :)

I finished this last weekend. Here are some pics along the way mostly in order. I dont have the frame pictures on this computer, but will add them later.

First set are body work. I only used less than 1/10" fill anywhere as i was learning with fender work.

This was my first build of any car. My best friend growing up painted for about 10 years and helped me learn how on this project. I painted about 1/2 the car after learning from him (my first). This roadster pickup is a single family car, where my wife's great grandfather bought it new in Montana.

The paint is Moss Rock Green, but my phone camera and lighting wasn't always the best at picking up the color.

Finished the morning of a Car Show in my home town with about 200 cars. So i took it over. Won Best Truck award. Had to take an pic with the little one and "his" trophy.

Next weekend, the weather was too nice not to go to another about 80 and sunny... so off to North Bonneville, WA in the Columbia river gorge where there was about 400 cars. We won Judges Choice Award (one below best in show). Who says that no body likes stock Model A's at car shows. :)

Looks great! I can see why you already have won trophies.
So, you are a professional, but play an amature on Fordbarn!:D

I did notice that your lower water pipe is on backwards. It'll fit better if you flip it end for end.

Keen of eye Tom, I thought that was what I saw but not educated that well on 28-29 A's.

Rob,
That is one excellent pickup and definately deserving of the awards. Nice, really nice.

Opps.... i guess i get one mistake :) I was looking at it thinking it was off and i needed to adjust it. Hehe.

Great truck! What brand of paint did you use? Did you spray it yourself?

My best friend growing up has about 10 years painting experience at a local truck plant, but not alot in the past 7 or 8 years. It didnt take much to have him come over and help me out...in fact one time during a frustrating night doing fender work, i mentioned to him that I might take it in and have it painted.... i ended up not doing that, since he sounded so down that he wasnt going to get to help :) I had never even held a paint gun before this started. Learned alot of how to lay down paint doing primer, and in the end, i painted about half of it after watching and learning on the fenders. My buddy did paint the harder areas though. It was nice to have a backup and someone to ask lots of questions to. I feel like i could do a decent job now, but im by no means an expert. I got lots of tips though on gun setup and technique.

I used PPG Deltron/Velocity B/C. I went round and round whether to do lacquer or modern...and we figured since i wanted to learn to paint that B/C would be more forgiving that 15-20 coats of lacquer and in the end chose the modern route.
