1928 PU seat question

I have a 28 PU I am putting back together. Sub frame was gone. I got a metal seat pan. Will get new springs also, but wondering about any wooden frame that goes under the springs? Or seat back.

Information needed on seat construction. Was there a wooden frame that the springs sit on.

Anyone with info on everything to do with the bench seat in the 28 / 29 pickup please chime in.

Details on how the seat is secured and so on. Details on the wood frames, anything will help I am sure.

thanks

If your pickup is a closed cab, I don't think the springs had a wood frame on the cushion or the backrest. There are 4 wood pieces that run from the back of the seat cushion frame to below the rear window. I believe the backrest springs rest against the 4 wood pieces. I thnk it was similar to the way roadster and phaeton seats were done.

On the 29 closed cab pickup the seat back is supported by 4 pieces of wood with the two center boards having metal clips about 2/3 of the way down for attaching the seat back. 2 other clips for the top of the seat back are just outside of the top two center boards along the cab seam. There is a piece of wood that runs lengthwise under the seat springs down the center.

I have a '28 open cab pickup and don't drive it much. Another thing to consider, if you are tall or a bit husky opt for reduced thickness on the bottom spring. I had a standard spring assembly and my stomach/chest interfered with the steering wheel. The thinner spring assembly helped a lot. Even with this improvement I feel that this is a rather uncomfortable vehicle to drive for any distance.

Its a closed cab 1928 PU

It is a closed cab, sorry I did not post that. the photos posted are exactly what I have. Wondering if there are no wooden frames mounted to the springs, how the seats mount to the bottom and back.

I saw what looked like metal clips on two of the wooden back supports. I think I may have the originals and will check to see if the clips are on them.

I am ordering new bottom and back springs as I know I need those. Still looking for more detail information on the seat cussions and if they have any sort of wood frame they mount to and how they fasten down.

Information and photo so far are great, hope someone may have some more information on the details. I have sewn several Model A seat covers and stuffed the pleats with cotton, but I usually had more to work with. In this case, I have absolutely nothing of the original seats and am working from scratch

thanks

As you can see from Marco's photos and this one, the seat material is held by crimping into a channel around the bottom of the seat spring assembly. There is no wood structure as part of the seat assy.
