1928 Fordor rear shade

A friend of mine is restoring a 1928 Fordor (June) with the left cowl vent.
What is the length of the rear window shade, and what material was used for the shade? The JS. seem a little vague on this one.

Hi Justin,

First, I'll say it's the same shade used on all '28-early '30 standard models with brown trim in case you know of any example to look at. The fabric wasn't fancy but did have a slight sheen when new. FWIW I believe it was about 15% silk with the remainder being cotton and a little wool.

I don't have good examples handy but the first two pics are from the late Steve Cicalone's low mileage 60-A. The shade is typically faded but in the enlarged second pic you can pic up a little of the brown color. The last three pics are of the early '28 "blue' version. I don't have a length measurement handy but with the shade rolled down in place there will me about one full wrap remaining on the roller.

Thanks for that Marco, it confirms my thinking. I have the remains of one that is almost identical. Is the bottom stick eliptical in shape?
Task now is to find the correct 26 inch one for the Victoria.

Hi,
from your pictures it looks like you have a town sedan.
The 29 t. S. Has tan colored shades that have a diamond weave in them, the side edges are sewn.
The 30-31 t.s have a slightly different diamond pattern and the edges are selvaged.
I have been looking for some tan colored material, but so far i only found a real close pattern in black.
Both patterns have what appears to be a mixture of silk and cotton. Also i think the shade rollers are tin not wood.

Hi Bick,
I saw your post yesterday but didn't have a chance to take photos of mine until today. I have a 28 Leatherback Fordor Oct 3, 1928. The interior is original and I think the shade is too. I am not sur how to remove it but I was able to pull it down to take the photos. The actual fabric measures 24 inches wide. The roller is 24 13/16 inchec wide from the outside edge of the roller the fabric is wound on. You can see the photos in my interior album as I just added them to the other photos there. The album link is http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/album.php?albumid=1916. lI hope the link actually works. Let me know if you need any other details. Good luck.
