1927 Gas Cap

Best way to describe my aftermarkets is they look like a barrel bung only smaller. If not a points car the aftermarkets work fine.

Here is a pic of the '26-'27 Part #2091B, if you look at the close up edge on one ear you may read the T 1317 factory number, but only the T and 1 show as the ear is gone on this original.

The other pics are the reproductions in brass, and in the upper is the earlier gas cap, Part#2901.

I have a brass cap that looks exactly like the 2091B only it's made of brass. It doesn't look reproduction at all. It's Ford Script on the top and what looks like the letter C cast "inside" the middle of the cap. I don't see any part number. I have seen another just like this years ago that came from Australia. I wasn't sure if the cap shown in period Ford litature was brass, nickle plated or what? Also is it possible that the top earlier cap was used in 1927 as I have a 27 that has the earlier cap and it's an original cap. The car was restored in 1950 and had the cap then.

Any brass cap is a reproduction.

All original Ford gas caps were made of zinc metal, kinda like pot metal...casting. A Grey appearing metal, that over time crazing and cracks and just plain gets bad.

That '26-'27 gas cap is shown in Parts and Price list for '26 so pretty sure no earlier cap were used on the Improved Car, but maybe swapped or certain assembly plants didn't get the new parts and put on old stock.

I'm guessing the 26-27 caps have the dome top to allow rain and show to roll off sence the tank is under the cowl and air vent.
