I am in the shop assembling my Phaeton. I only have 1 good door and the car was never together with new hinges. I'm trying to position the cowl to attain the proper fit. Do the doors overlap the rear body? or are the flush with a small gap.???? HELP, I'm stuck!!!

NO OVER LAP. Your cowl might be too far back or the tub might be to far forward. The BODY can be moved on the wood body stills .We oblonged the body bolt holes alittle to adjust. Its a pull and or push with the cowl and rear tub. Try for a 1/8" gap but don't be surprised at a 3/16" between door and rear tub post..

I must clear things up /when i say the rear tub might be not be to far back .The wood body sills under the front cowl might be too far forward .You will be surprise how much 1/8" to 3/16' will make if too far wood sill is forward under the cowl.Set you front cowl without the 2 body to wood sill bolts and move back the wood sill from under the cowl. You should only have the front body bolt to rubber grommet to frame on.

I don't believe for the problem he is talking about. IF the gap is like pie shape between the door and the rear quarter panel then i would say yes[sag in the frame ]. But if the doors are equal top to bottom then i would say he is safe. Frame should be correct before he started out. If he bolts the cowl down only at the 2 front body bolts and then all the rest off, then he can slide the wood sill with the rear tub forward or back on the frame. In his case its back about 1/8' to 3/16''.that will open the gap between the door and rear quarter.

Pete- Thanks again for your expertise and guidance. I started *** backwards, but came close. The cowl/frame holes are about a 1/2" ahead of the holes in the frame. During the dry fit, the fenders, running board & spash aprons fit fine, but now I'm concerned. I can still slot the holes in the subframe even though mine is made from 1 x 3 steel tubing.
Thanks again,
Don
P.S. I am not running a hood in the beginning, so it's not that critical.

All you need to do is 1/8" at each hole. How you do it is up to you. Metal sills ,i will try with a small cutting wheel. Drill holes larger and then use flat washer ,locker with bolts.
