12 volt generator

Al,

It is very difficult to steer you if we don't know where you are starting from. Where are you located? I would talk with he guys in to local Early Ford V8 Club chapter and ask who can convert one. Next put an ad in wanted section for a 2 brush generator that has a pulley mounted fan. They are kind of scarce. I think they fit '39 standard and maybe a couple of others. If you can find just the pulley it can be used on several years. MACS (or somebody) may be reproducing the pulley. As far as a dealer goes, again where are you?

I'm in Fort Walton Beach, in the Florida Panhandle, but that's no problem. I'm just looking for a source. I drive a 1933 Ford with what I think is a stock '36 engine. Like all of that vintage, it's a three brush unit with only a cutout - no regulator.

What I'm interested in is simply buying an off-the-shelf 12 volt generator of that type. It may turn out that they don't manufacture any like that, and I may have to purchase a 6 volt unit and have the field coils replaced.

I talked to Mr. Whitney, a very nice gentleman. His stuff looks good - alternators packaged to look just like the original Ford generators.

Where can I get a 12V generator for a 59B Flathead that uses the origional Fan mounting location?

I had the field coils converted to 12 volt in the generator in my '51 Merc. 8CM. I got a voltage regulator to match. It looks stock and works great. I thought about the Powergenerator, but have heard mixed reviews on the quality with the biggest issue being failure due to iverheating.
