12 volt generator conversion

I just had my 6 volt generator converted to 12 volt. It now has 2 brushes and 2 wires coming out of it .one is grounded the other is power I'm guessing. Can I use a voltage regulator for it ? If so what kind would I need? And how would I wire it

I would think that whoever converted the generator would be the best source for this information. "converted to 12 volt" is a pretty generic statement.

Need more details. What kind of generator was converted? How was the conversion done? Was it origunally a 3 brush? What year? Some clear, close up photos would help. The grounded wire coming out is likely the field. It should be grounded for use with a cutout.

If it only has 2 brushes, you must use a regulator. If a cutout is used the generator will run at max output continuously.

the regulator will have to match the type of field installed and have to be matched to the amperage the generator is made for.
one version of regulator puts power to fields , on this kind the other end of the field winding is grounded ( stock Ford 2 brush generator )
the other type of field the regulator makes the ground and the other end of the field is connected to the power brush ( Ford 3 brush generator are connected similar to this)
The regulator has to match the generator.
