12 volt conversion

hey guys, i want to convert my 53 f100 8rt flattie to 12 volts. My question is what parts do i need to get, i was thinking of using a 56 ford voltage regulator and coil. I also want to retain stock look of flathead but i want to run an alternater what type of alternater does anyone suggest.Im using my 6 volt wiring that is fairly new pretty good shape.Any help would be appreciated this is my first rewire.thank you aloha from hawaii alfred

I followed Patrick's advice here and my 48 F1 has run that way for the past 12 years.

You said you want to run an alternator, but if by chance you want to keep it looking stock, replace the barrel and field-coils of your 6v gennie with those from a 57 Ford. I did this to mine. Looks original, but is 12v and puts out about 15 amps.
